This is our first post.  I have become increasingly concerned about what our country is becoming.  I taught for 35 years in inner city high schools and most of that time I taught social studies.  Often my posts will be concerned with our government and how it is being unduly influenced by large corporations and the very wealthy.

Today I am going to begin with a simple bit of lying by members of the Trump administration. We know that our government lies to us from time to time.  The Gulf of Tonkin incident got us more involved in Viet Nam and after Washington knew we could not win we continued to lose thousands of lives of our troops and tens of thousands of Asian lives as well; yet we were told we were winning.  The Bush administration told us that Iraq was developing weapons of mass destruction (they were not).  This current president goes way beyond the pale for lying.  He is a pathologic liar and tolerates no dissent in his administration.  People like Generals Kelly and Mattis have departed and currently question his character and ability to lead.  Trump has surrounded himself with sycophants and people who will not speak truth to power.  People in his administration follow his lead and lie to us too.  On January 22,2017 Kellyanne Conway uttered her famous Alternative Facts to Chuck Todd when he questioned her about Sean Spicer’s lie about the size of Trumps inauguration.  Trump said his inauguration crowd was the largest ever.and his press secretary, Sean Spicer repeated to the press that the attendance at Trump’s inaugural far  exceeded that of President Obama’s.  Aerial photographs easily refuted this lie.  Undaunted Kellyanne offered alternative facts to explain away the lie.  Todd was momentarily left speechless.  What would your parents have done if when caught in a lie you instead said you have alternative facts.  Would not go over well would it? Now she says that the novel coronavirus-19 is not new and 19 means it is the 19th variation of the virus.  Not true.  Novel means new and 19 stands for the year that virus was discovered.  She is either stupid, which I do not believe, or she is lying trying to minimize the threat of a new virus and thus reducing the threat in the minds of those who watch Fox.  Nothing to worry about; after all the virus is just a myth propagated by the Democrats!  Right.  In my next Blog I will mention Dan Rather’s book and just a few of Trump lies.
