I am not sure why the President behaves the way he does about  Covid-19.  I have some ideas and I am not even sure if Donald Trump knows for certain.  He is not responsible for the virus but is responsible for how he has lead the country in dealing with it.  He said no one could have foreseen it coming.  That is a lie.  Obama’s outgoing Homeland Security people met with Trumps Homeland Security people.  They were briefed on possible natural disasters, the nuclear threat from North Korea, China’s expansion in the South China Sea and of course Russian interference in our elections  (something Trump was not interested in) and a possible pandemic of a new respiratory virus striking the world and the United States.  So, he was advised about this possibility. So when he said no one could have foreseen it coming, that was a lie.  He knew of the possibility. When it arrived he blamed past administrations for not stockpiling necessary equipment to deal with Covid-19.  However he had three years to replenish the stockpile but he did nothing.  At one of his rallies with people sitting shoulder to shoulder, he said the virus was just a myth put out by Democrats and they all laughed and cheered. A very big lie. Possibly some people at the rally had the virus and shared it with others who went home and continued to spread it.  Even if no one at the rally had it, they all went home thinking the virus was no threat and made themselves vulnerable to catching it.  He said, after some people caught it, that it would be gone by the weekend.  Lie. His national intelligence agencies had warned him about the threat posed by the virus but he ignored their reports.  He told states that they were on their own in dealing with the virus and each state struggled against each other to get PPEs.  In Hong Kong doctors and nurses had all necessary equipment and none of them got the virus. In our country our nurses and doctors with less than adequate protection bravely went into battle the disease and some got sick and died.   In our country, some of our doctors and nurses wore baseball teams rain ponchos and one first responder was given swim goggles. South Korea, a nation of 50 million people, immediately responded to the virus presence and conducted rigorous tracing with the result of approximately 300 deaths.  We were late to respond and the “horse was out of the barn” so to speak when it came to testing and tracing.  Dr. Fauci wants people to wear masks and practice social distancing.  This is not a lot to ask yet Trump refuses to do so and sets a bad example for his supporters. The wearing of a mask became a political issue.  How stupid.  Covid-19 does not care if you are Republican or Democrat.  Wearing a mask protects me from you. Nonessential businesses were shut down and were not to reopen until the spread of he virus was going down, but many states, often Republican led, opened up too soon and the virus is now  going up greatly in these states.  We will have more than 200,000 Americans  die before January and if this trend continues where will it stop?  Could we have 1/2 million deaths before a vaccine is available in a year or maybe a million deaths!  This is a definite possibility.  At a rally in Tulsa, Trump said that he wanted testing to slow down because it identified more people with the virus.  Bad statistics he said.  The increase in hospitalizations and deaths are the true indicator of the progression of he virus.  If we test people, we can identify who has it, isolate them and identify who they were in contact with to prevent the spread of the disease.  We need more tests not less. Ok, so why does Trump want the economy opened up?  The economy began it resurgence under Obama and continued under Trump.  It is the only thing he had going for him and with the shutdowns he didn’t have even that.  If the economy rebounds he feels it will help him get reelected.  You must understand he has no feelings of compassion or empathy for other people.  He is only interested in what benefits him, so if people die, he is unfazed as long as he benefits. His bottom line is himself and will always be so.
