My return to the blog and about me

I am now reviving my blog. These times demand that we stop the attempt to destroy our democracy. About me: My father was born in the back country of West Virginia ( he joking said that it was so far back in the hills that you had to ride a pregnant mule to the mailbox just so you would have one to ride back_). His family were subsistence farmers farming with horses. He attended a one room schoolhouse that went to the 8th grade. He like all of his brothers and sisters except one came to Columbus to find work. He worked as a union person in a factory for 49 years (including his time in World War II). My mother’s mother died when she was one year old and she was raised by her grandmother whose husband was in the Union army in the Civil War. She went to the 6th grade. My father was a combat infantryman in the 99th division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a prisoner of war from before Christman 1944 until April 1945. He was an Eisenhower Republican and my mom was a Roosevelt Democrat. My family members on both sides were union workers giving an honest days labor for an honest wage. On my first day of school, my mother walked me to school. I said, “I just don’t think I’ll go to school,” She said I just think you will. You will graduate from high school and maybe go to college.” This exchange set the stage for my educational experience. I have a B.S., M.A. and PhD. Our two children have bachelors and masters degrees. I taught a variety of subjects but mostly history and government. I am concerned about the` future of our democracy. Tomorrow I will explain the origin of left wing and right wing politics. Republicans call opponents left wingers. You will find out that the origins of left wing is really more in favor of democracy. OK, so tomorrow: where does left and right wing originate, and we will go over the continuum from extremes of left and right and you can decide where you fit in and where today’s politicians and our population fit in on this line.
