That is a quote from Adam Kinzinger who is a REAL conservative Republican, not a Trumplican. He, along with Liz Cheney, another very conservative Republican served on the committee to investigate the attempt to overthrow our elected government on January 6th. Representative Kinzinger was a combat military veteran and with Representative Cheney put our country ahead of partisan politics. At first I was shocked and surprised by his statement, but the more I consider what has been going on in our country and especially Ohio I am prone to agree with him. Ohio has enacted a very strict voter identification requirement for voting. The reason our Republican legislature says it is to protect the integrity of the electoral process. Poppycock! In the words of Senator Alan Simpson:” If you have integrity nothing else matters and if you do not have integrity nothing else matters.” Look at the liars in the Republican Members of the Ohio General Assembly. Geting reelected is all that matters and they will say and do whatever it takes and to heck with integrity When I first voted I was asked my name and it was looked up at my pr3ecinct, my name was found and my signature of my previous voting. I signed my name and it was compared to my previous signature and I was good to vote. Then prior to 2023 people without a driver’s license could present a phone bill or other identification and the person could vote, but not anymore. Now a voter must provide a government issued picture ID and it must not be an expired license. If people could not present a valid ID, they could vote provisionally but must return in 4 days to present a valid photo ID or their provisional ballot is not counted. Why such stringent laws? Republicans say it is to protect and guarantee the security of voting. This is not the real reason. In the past election the number of people who vote illegally was .000019%. In other words illegal voting is practically nonexistent. So we pass laws against something that is not a problem and ignore more pressing issues, So why do Republican controlled legislatures pass such restrictive laws? It is to make it difficult for people of color to vote–people who are likely to vote Democrat. To get a photo ID a voter must go to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles to get a picture ID, but how does a person without a driver license or car get to a place to get an ID? Republicans in power well know that protecting voting from something that is not happening is a lie. It is to make it difficult for people who are likely to vote Democrat to not be able to vote. Plain and simple. White male Republican are a base of the Republican Party but people of color are outnumbering them when you add white males and women to the roster of Democrats. Consider the past several P{ewsidential elections: Bush lost the p[opular vote to Gore but won it in the next elections. Republicans 1 Democrats 1. Obama won the popular vote in the next 2 elections. Score Republicans 1 Democrats 3. Trump lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton by about 2 million vote. That’s right he lost the popular vote but said people voted illegally for Clinton. He said thousands of illegal voters were bussed into New Hampshire to vote for Clinton; the Republican Secretary of State in New Hampshire said it did not happen. A Trump lie. Score Republicans 1 Democrats 4 Next election Trump lost to Biden by about 8 million votes but Trump said it was stolen (the Big Lie–more about that later). Scored Republicans 1 Democrats 5. In order to win elections it has become necessary for Republicans in office to use voter suppression and gerrymandering to hold on to p[ower by any means possible. Even by endorsing an insurrection to over throw the legally elected President of the United States. Adam Kinzinger is correct.. the current people in the Republican Party only believe in democracy if they win elections and will do anything to suppress opposing views. We need more Adam Kinzingers and Liz Cheneys.
