Just when I thought I have seen everything from Trump, he went to Switzerland. He has said that he wanted to have Greenland and if the Danes would not sell it to him, then he would take it by force. NATO sent troops to Greenland to defend it from us!!! Since the 1950’s Denmark has given the U.S. permission to build as many bases and station as many troops there as we want. During the Cold War, we had nearly 20 basses there, but we pulled them out. Denmark and the people of Greenland would welcome us to put troops and as many bases there as we want. Trump is a bully and threatens Denmark and the people of Greenland. Notice that Trump does not threaten Russia and China–countries that he is afraid to take on. Article 5 of the NATO agreements says that if one nation is attacked, all will come to defense. Since the founding of NATO it has been put into action once and that was during 911 and NATO came to our aid. In fact Denmark has lost more troops per capita in our defense than we did. Trump insults NATO and said that NATO troop held back in Afghanistan and this is untrue. Trump also said that he was not sure that NATO would come to our defense (they already did during 911). Is he really stupid or lying or both. He threatened NATO countries with tariffs if he does not get Greenland; and European countries said that if he did that they would cease imports from us. The Canadian prime Minister’s speech bluntly said that Canada will go its own way without us. Canada is our best friend –or was–and our top trading partner. European countries recognized that they cannot trust us and will look for other trading partners. We will be left on our own. Who benefits from this? Putin of course–Trump’s good buddy. Trump’s rambling speech exposed his idiocy to the world–so much for the world leader. What did Trump get for all this other than irreparably damaging NATO and us? Nothing that we would have gotten simply by just going to Greenland and building basses which was what Greenland offers anyway. He gained nothing, but he did demonstrate himself to be a deranged person and lost the confidence of our allies. We will be left without friends while our trading partners will look to Asia and South America for trade. And this is The Art of the Deal in action?!
