Trump’s Big “Bad” Bill

Public education is being damaged. “The Normalization of Book Banning”, a new report by PEN America which recorded 6,870 instances of book bans during 2024-2025 school year. Since 2021, when the current wave of book bans began, there have been 22,810 cases of banned books across 45 states and 451 school districts. An attack on our freedom to read is being done across our nation by a small group of people. Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill which was signed by the Republicans in the US congress including Ohio’s 2 senators cut $1 trillion dollars out of Medicaid, making it likely students with disabilities will lose therapies and services they count on to thrive and survive. And all this to give tax cuts to the ultra-rich while the most needy of our citizens are hurt and left without health care. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) faces $186 billion in cuts. Gotta get those rich guys their tax dollars. So what if 18 million children will lose access to free school breakfasts and lunches. The Trump administration gutted the Department of Education. Today nearly 90% of schools receive some Title 1funding which impacts funding for students with special needs. The Medicaid cuts was $1 trillion dollars Nearly 80 million Americans–including 38 million children rely on Medicaid for health care. Remember all this suffering was done so that Trump could give the ultra-rich tax cuts which they don’t need. In the words of Molly Ivins’ ” the rich don’t need help; they are doing just fine!” So when it comes time to vote, vote these heartless Republican senators and congresspeople out.

So act that what you do creates the greatest good for the greatest number of people. If the

Republicans had thought about this and cared then the bill would never have seen the light of day.
